Harpist Sebastien Lipman Strings and Harps—A Honolulu Reunion
Honolulu Symphony Concertmaster Iggy Jang brings us this concert featuring his childhood friend, French harpist Sebastien Lipman. As two young boys, they grew up together in Grenoble, France. Both went on to international musical careers, and after 30 years have come together again to create this very special evening of music. In 1987, at barely 22, Sebastien Lipman was named Principal Harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic, selected by legend Herbert Von Karajan. He now resides in Australia, and at last the two friends are reunited. Sharing the stage this evening will be the Honolulu Symphony Principals, violinist Mark Butin, cellist Mark Votapek and bassist Kirby Nunez. Violinist Greg Wrenn and harpist Sayo Lipman will also take part in this exciting program. The evening will feature unique musical pairings, from Saint-Saens’ Duo to Handel’s Harp Concerto; from Kodaly’s popular String Quartet No. 2 to Debussy’s Danses Sacree et Profane
June 3 at 4:00 p.m.
$15 general, $10 students, seniors, Academy and HSO members
